This visa is designated for employees and workers of companies located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Before submitting the visa application from the applicant’s country of origin or current residance, the work permit and necessary authorizations must be issued by the employer.
To obtain a visa, employees must have a sponsor in Saudi Arabia. The sponsoring employer is responsible for most of the application process, but the prospective employee will need to supply all the necessary documents.
It’s a two-step process:
First, you get a visit visa valid for 90 days to enter the country.
Secondly, your employer applies for your residence permit and work permit (called an Iqama) which allows you to live and work there longer-term.
All foreign citizens from all nationalities are eligible to apply for a Saudi work visa, provided they have received a valid job offer and a signed employment contract from a Saudi employer. Foreign applicants will also be asked to provide personal information and undergo medical screening, among other requirements.
The employer must begin the work visa application process. Here are the necessary steps to obtain a visa and residency permit in Saudi Arabia:
Employees must carry their iqama at all times to prove that they are legally allowed to live and work in Saudi Arabia.
If employees want to travel in and out of Saudi Arabia during the duration of their employment, they need to apply for an Exit/Re-Entry Permit through the Ministry of Interior. This permit is generally issued within 1 week.
The Saudi work visa is a visit visa, permitting its holder to stay in Saudi Arabia for a maximum of 90 days. During the time traveling to Saudi Arabia, the foreign employee should apply for a Saudi residence permit with the Saudi Ministry of Labor, which along with their Saudi work permit, or Iqama, allows the foreign employee to work and live in Saudi Arabia for up to 1 year, extendable based on the continuity of the same employment.
An Iqama is a work permit that allows a foreign national to engage in long-term employment activities, while a visa is a visitor’s pass that allows a foreign national to visit another country for a short, specified period of time.
