In January 2024, Kenya implemented the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system, replacing previous visa requirements.

All visitors intending to travel to Kenya, except citizens of East African Community (EAC) member states, are required to obtain an ETA. This applies to both tourists and business visitors.

Your eTA is valid for 90 days from the date of issuance and you must travel during this period. It is only required for entry into Kenya and can only be used once. There is no need to re-apply for an eTA if it expires whilst you are in Kenya.

Your eTA is valid for a single entry into Kenya. However, there are some exceptions to this.

Your eTA remains valid for more than one entry if:

• You visit one of the following EAC Partner States: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda, AND;
• You don't visit any other country, AND;
• Your eTA has not expired (90 days from issuance)

Yes, it's essential to print a physical copy of your ETA to show at border control, as digital versions on phones or tablets might not be accepted.

According to our experience, the majority of eTA applications are processed within about three working days. To prevent any last-minute issues, we suggest applying for your eTA at least two weeks prior to your planned arrival in Kenya. Please be aware that the online system may reject eTA applications if your travel date is less than two days from the date of application.

A return flight is necessary for this application. If you're uncertain about your travel dates, you can book a flight now and cancel it later.
