MANDATORY ARRIVAL CARD
China has officially introduced a new digital arrival card for foreign visitors, replacing the traditional paper form. Launched on 20 November 2025 by the National Immigration Administration (NIA), the system aims to simplify border entry procedures and enhance the overall travel experience.
Global Visa Lab is here to help you complete the digital arrival card correctly and on time for your trip.
The China Tourist Visa, commonly referred to as the „L“ Visa, serves as a travel authorization for individuals planning to visit mainland China for tourism purposes. This visa can be granted for a single entry, allowing a stay of up to 90 days, or for double entries, with each visit lasting a maximum of 60 days. Additionally, if you have scheduled a cruise that includes more than two shore visits in China, the China Tourist Visa may be issued for multiple entries.
To further facilitate visa application, the Chinese Embassy in Bern and the Chinese Consulate in Zurich will exempt the requirement of fingerprints collection for applicants who are applying for single or double-entry short-term visa from September 2, 2024 to December 31, 2025.
This means that you can mail (registered post or courier) the required documents for the tourist visa (single or double entry) to us, and the applicant is not required to visit the China Visa Application Centre in Zurich or Bern to submit their fingerprints in person.
To get a multiple entry visa, you still need to submit your documents and an application form to the China Visa Application Centre in Zurich or Bern in person.
From November 30, 2024 to December 31, 2025, China has decided to implement a visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from 38 countries:

Citizens holding ordinary passports from the above countries who come to China for business, tourism, family visit, exchange visit and transit purposes for no more than 30 days can enter China without a visa.
From September 2, 2024 to December 31, 2025, the Embassy of China in Switzerland exempts all applicants who apply for single or double-entry short-term visas (stay in China for no more than 180 days) from fingerprints collection.
Besides, exemptions for the fingerprint requirements are still granted to:
I. Applicants under the age of 14 or over 70;
II. Applicants holding a diplomatic passport or eligible for application of diplomatic, service or courtesy visa of China;
III. Applicants who have had fingerprints collected and have obtained Chinese visa with the same passports within 5 years;
IV. Applicants with all ten fingerprints unable to be collected.

The National Immigration Administration (NIA) announced on December 17, 2024, the immediate relaxation of its visa-free transit policy. The stay duration for eligible foreign nationals has been extended from 72 and 144 hours to 240 hours (10 days).
Additionally, 21 new ports of entry and exit have been added, expanding options for travelers.
Citizens from 54 eligible countries, including the US, UK, Australia, Switzerland and many European nations, can now enter visa-free through 60 ports in 24 regions while traveling from China to a third country, with a maximum stay of 240 hours.
It is advisable that you apply for your visa approximately one month prior to your intended date of entry into China, but not earlier than three months. If you apply for a visa too early, the visa might expire before your arrival to mainland China. For instance; if you plan to enter China on 1st of July, the best time to submit your application would be around 1st of June (counting working days only).
